Hot Spots for spectators
This post is also available in: German
With its “Arena Atmosphere” the Langener Waldsee offers a great overview of the start area. There are many opportunities for spectators to get into close contact with the athletes on the long parts of the swim loop as well as during the running passage after the first lap and at the transition zone.
On the Bike Course there will be Hot Spots on the steep incline “The Beast” in Bergen-Enkheim and at the “Marktstraße” in Bergen-Enkheim.
v“The Beast” can be reached via Underground from Frankfurt-Hauptwache to the Endstation, Bergen-Enkheim, directly located at the Hessen-Center. From there you can walk along the Bike Course and get to the mentioned Hot Spots. If you come by car, we recomend to leave your car at the Hessen Center.
Another Hot Spot will form in the historical village of Maintal-Hochstadt, at the incline “The Hell” and in Maintal-Wachenbuchen, at the hill called “Hühnerberg”. This hill includes one of the most beautiful half timbered houses in the region. This place can be reached by S-Bahn leaving from Frankfurt-Hauptbahnhof (Central Railway Station) by trains going Direction Frankfurt-Ost, Frankfurt-Mainkur, get out of the train at Bahnhof Maintal-Ost. And head north for about 5-10 minutes to Maintal-Hochstadt. From the Central Railway Station it will take you about 15 minutes to reach the place. There is also plenty of space to park your car. Here we expect up to 20 000 spectators on raceday.
The most northern point of the bike course will be reached in the health resort Bad Nauheim. Along the well-known salt works of the city called “The Health” spectators will cheer up the athletes and give them a “mental” push on their way back to Frankfurt. The next hightlight will follow only a couple of kilometres later: the “Castle-Mile” in Friedberg. The triathletes will be cheered on by a few thousand spectators while cycling around the medivial castle and along Kaiserstrasse (= Emperor Street) through the centre of Friedberg. Getting goose-pimples is guaranteed! The hill at the “Frankfurter Straße” in Bad Vilbel, called “Powerbar Corner” at “Heartbreak Hill” allows you to catch your athlete at low speed. You get there by S-Bahn/U-Bahn from Frankfurt-Hauptwache in just 10 Minutes, Direction Bad Vilbel and Karben. Get out of the train at Bad Vilbel-Süd. Its about 3- 5 walking to get to Heartbreak Hill/ Frankfurter Strasse. Also at the Heartbreak Hill we provide free parking space on the northern end of Bad Vilbel. Comming from Frankfurt on the road B-521 you will find parking signs. Its just 5 Minutes to walk to Heartbreak Hill.
Many spectators are also expected in the city at the Mainkai/Eiserner Steg where you can see the athletes three times while hanging out on the big spectator stages.
“The Hell” – Maintal-Hochstadt
“Heartbreak-Hill” – Bad Vilbel
The spectator stages at Mainkai/Eiserner Steg are the best place to watch the athletes running. On both sides of the river you can see the athletes fighting and making their way to the finish line. At the so called “Museumsuferseite”, the turn around point and the Coca-Cola-Corner at the “Gerbermühle” will attract many spectators.
Grandstands at Mainkai + Spectators Area
Finishlineparty – “Römerberg”
We ask all spectators to keep off the bike course with any vehicles. Expect delays on all parts of the course because the athletes have the first priority on raceday.
It is strictly forbidden to accompany athletes during any portion of the race. Athletes that do not instantly refuse company by spectators can be disqualified by race officials or marshalls at any time. We thank all the locals for their understanding and cooperation.
Enjoy the Ironman Raceday at the Race Course and invite and motivate your friends to support the athletes from 55 countries around the world.
